How to decide which network is best-wired or wireless?

Are you looking for an internet connection in your home or office? Then surely you would have faced the dilemma of choosing a wired network or wireless network. Don’t worry! You are not alone. Everyone faces this dilemma while considering getting an internet connection. Both the networks have their pros and cons and it is only you who can decide which network will be suitable for you. Make sure to take the decision only on your needs and requirements.

Undoubtedly, the current trend is definitely towards wireless networks because they are often more convenient but do you know that wired networks can be superior when it comes to issues such as network security and faster upload/download speeds. Today we are going to discuss the same.

Although, wireless networks enable multiple devices to use the same internet connection remotely and allow mobile devices, such as laptops, tablets and ipods to move around within the network area freely while still maintaining a connection to the internet and the network but there are also several disadvantages too, especially when you compare them with wired networks.

Advantages of a Wireless Network over Wired network-

  • The main advantage of a wireless network over a wired network is that you can move around freely within the area of the network with your laptops, mobiles and other devices etc and still remain connected.
  • Wireless network enables you to share files and other resources with other devices that are connected to the network without any need of a cable or a wire.
  • Another biggest advantage of wireless network is that you can connect a number of devices without thinking of any wire or cable. It also saves extra expenses and time.
  • If you run a small business such as café or restaurant, then having a wireless network can bring you an extra business as customers love wireless connections.
  • Wireless network allows you to connect several devices as there is no limitation of port.
  • Instant transfer of information, photos or videos to social media can be easily done over a wireless network.

Disadvantages of a Wireless Network

  • Sometimes it can require extra costs and equipment to set up. Although, present days routers and devices such as laptop, smart phones, tablets and other hand held devices have built-in wireless capability.
  • Setting up a wireless network can sometimes be difficult for people who are less tech savvy.
  • Wireless networks can be irritating when it comes to offering speed. In comparison to wired networks file-sharing transferring speeds or the uploading and downloading speeds are usually slower in wireless networks. However, the internet speed varies according to your location.
  • The general speed of a wireless connection is usually much slower than a wired network.
  • The connection gets worse as you move farther from the router. For better speed you need to remain closer to the router.
  • Wireless connections and networks can be easily obstructed by everyday household items and structures such as walls, ceilings, and furniture.
  • Wireless networks are generally less secure. Information shared over wireless networks is less secure in comparison to wired networks.

Hope, this helps you find the most suitable network for you. If you require connecting multiple devices then you can choose a high-speed reliable wireless network while on the other hand if you need to access the internet in a single device then wired network can be the perfect choice for you.
